Feminism Poisons Atheism? Conservativism Got There First

When I was at a Mosque at Ground Zero protest a few years ago the Republicans bused in some kids from the Bronx so they could stand around looking all young and innocent for emotional impact while they talked about how a Mosque at ground zero was frightening to children.

Outside of mentioning it in comments and on blogtv shows I didn’t focus too much on the matter. This was politics and these sorts of tactics are fairly common.

One speaker from; “Focus on the Family” used the children by giving subtle looks and gestures at key moments during his speech. He was clearly trying to imply that children in the neighborhood were frightened by this potential Mosque and these were them standing right here.

I found it peculiar they’d have to bus children from schools to a Park 3-5 blocks away (a 3-5 minute walk) so I sidled on over to the bus driver to ask him where they were from.

He responded that they had come from up in the Bronx somewhere (it may have been Westchester but my knowledge of north of Manhattan geography is a bit vague).

Flash forward to now where I’m getting into a disagreement with some fans of a mid-large sized YouTube content provider by the name of “Thunderf00t” (a prominent atheist channel on YouTube) in his comments section on a video of his called; “Why Feminism Poisons Atheism”.

I had provided this example of the bused in children to a commenter while debating the negative effects of the GOP version of Conservativism because at the time the commonness of the occurrence with the bused in children stuck in my mind as perfectly representative of the lack of skeptical thinking going on in American society in general.

I was trying to explain in thunderf00t’s comment section how some of the large atheist channels on YouTube had effectively for whatever reason turned a blind eye to the blatant abuses of reason that were part of the assault coming from the GOP and thus gave the sudden impression that they were tacitly supporting the GOP Conservative dialogue in America.

At the time I had this sense of foreboding and thought;

“If the self-proclaimed skeptic community will give Conservatives a pass on the Muslim dialogue at the expense of Free Speech, Property Rights and Equality, then what else will they give them a pass on? How far will they go in compromising their skepticism?”

It is with a shadow of this memory that I have watched as the atheist (self proclaimed) skeptic community turned its eye onto fresh blood; this time feminism.

As I watch with a feeling of deja vu I see some of the same poor skeptical thinking, poor arguments and sloppy use of logic being raised time and again in their fight against feminism (a fight bolstered by an anti-feminist fringe minority group that has latched onto the great internet pool of resentment men and women often feel towards each other.That group now holds regular fund raisers in their “fight against feminism”).

Which is why I bring up this one commenter.

Apparently my eye witness testimony wasn’t good enough and the commenter effectively claimed that; “Politicians busing in kids from the outer borough requires evidence on the level of proving Christ’s existence.”

Somehow the two were comparable to him.

Once again I had to repeat those words I can now say in my sleep.

“Extraordinary claims requires extraordinary evidence doesn’t apply to ordinary circumstances”.

Which means Thunderf00t needs to do a video explaining how evidence works to his dumber fans. Because to be frank, the blind eye he and others like him turned to some of the terrible arguments being presented on Islam in America a few years ago makes me wonder the following;

If more of us had not waited until this last election to put our foot down and deliver a clear message that we no longer wish to be treated like gullible buffoons by the GOP, if we had delivered that message some 5 years ago when they first began to ramp up the utterly insane and bizarre dialogues that gave them the ability to present the united, intractable front they have presented for many years now;

Would we still be hours away from going over a fiscal cliff that will push America back into a recession and has given this Congress the dubious honor of being voted ; “the Congress that has accomplished less than any other congress since 1940” due to the intractability and hyper-partisan tactics of the GOP?

Because let’s face it. The GOP only did what they did because Americans chose to either believe or ignore what they were doing. So we have only ourselves to blame for letting this dog run wild.

  1. This has absolutely NOTHING to do with Islam. You are comparing 2 completely different things and this is nothing but a ranty little diatribe.

    • Unsurprisingly a fan of thunderf00t’s missed the entire point of the post. Perhaps if if you read the entire blog post you might rethink your comment.

      I’m comparing a pattern of poor thinking skills when it comes to the dialogue in this country and those who support it either deliberately or out of ignorance.

      That you can read the blog and say; “This has nothing to do with Islam!” proves the very thing I’m saying.

      I suggest that you take a deep breath, calm down and try again. As I posted this blog with a calm and cheerful disposition I am in a wonderful mood and have no problem letting you get over your little tiff and giving it another go. 🙂

  2. “It is with a shadow of this memory that I have watched as the atheist (self proclaimed) skeptic community turned its eye onto fresh blood; this time feminism.”

    Is there ever a moment in your day when you take a break from wallowing in victimhood?

    The skeptic community has been enduring a relentless and baseless smear campaign for over a year; yet the pseudo-feminists mounting it are somehow “fresh blood” – implying they are predators prey? “Predators” being whoever does not imbibe the Kool-aid.

    The saddest part is that this kind of kangaroo court logic no longer makes me even raise an eyebrow – it is more or less to be expected.

    Thanks anyway, I have another bookmark for the next time I need to explain “sophistry” to someone.

    • “Is there ever a moment in your day when you take a break from wallowing in victimhood? ”

      Ad hom in the form of question, as well as an appeal to emotion. I’m also guessing there’s an assumption I’m a feminist there so that’s three things you got wrong in one sentence.

      I’m incredibly impressed that you could screw up so badly and contain such an example of fail and fallacy all in one sentence.

      Kudos on that.

      “The skeptic community has been enduring a relentless and baseless smear campaign for over a year;”

      Really? I’m a member of the skeptic community. There’s been no smear campaign against us. Oh wait! Are you assuming that you’re a member of the skeptic community? (laughs derisively) that would involve you having to be a skeptic. Your post suggests otherwise.

      “Predators” being whoever does not imbibe the Kool-aid.”

      I don’t suppose you think vaccines are evil? Or that Obama wants to put you in an indoctrination camp? Because saying shit like;

      “”Predators” being whoever does not imbibe the Kool-aid.” makes you sound like a nutter.

      “The saddest part is that this kind of kangaroo court logic no longer makes me even raise an eyebrow – it is more or less to be expected.”

      Then my advice is start being a skeptic and stop acting like a member of that kangaroo court.

    • Thank you.

      Charles Bukowski wrote for years and couldn’t get his material printed on a bathroom wall.

      Today he’s considered one of the greatest poets of his time.

      Always remember;

      You ain’t famous until you are. 😀

      Happy New year to you too.
