I get a lot of MRAs and MRA supporters telling me that women not being allowed to serve in the military makes them privileged and not discriminated against.
This is one of those ridiculous arguments that’s fairly easy to deal with. The whole position is based on a mix of revisionist history and twisting of social perception that takes for example, the trials of being a stay at home mom, repackages them and puts them on a pedestal of privilege.
Contrary to the opinion of the ignorant? Being a mom, especially a single caretaker, is a hard job. One you can’t quit without dire repercussions.
According to them a woman gets to have the privilege of a man taking care of her, a man who pays for a nice house with plenty of food and all the securities that come from being married to an employed man without any of the stress that men who are forced to go out into the cruel, hard world have to face!
Why these men even fight wars for these women, against their own will! True that hasn’t happened in over 35 years (of which during America has been continuously at war) but we’re sure it’s going to happen any second now!
In their minds women are regulated to the status of an older child who has been given some extra, undeserved privileges.
This is a throwback argument to a 1950s mentality with a veneer of modern day jealousy over the advances women have gained in society that these people feel came without any cost.
The following is a response to a comment by a George Zimmerman apologist I received in a thread from a person on the subject of George Zimmerman located here.
The original article reports on George Zimmerman’s recent claims to poverty and homelessness. For those who have been living under a rock George Zimmerman pursued and shot to death a young black youth by the name of Trayvon Martin. He was acquitted under Florida’s questionable “Stand Your Ground” laws.
I had attempted to explain to one of the offended Zimmerman fans some basic concepts of law; specifically the difference between “Not Guilty” and “Innocent” in response to some highly dubious claims he made about Zimmerman being; “wrongfully prosecuted” (those comments can be found here).
His response devolved into a position of butthurt that has me concerned that I may receive a subpoena to appear in court and defend myself against a Civil Suit.
I’m sure this lawyer will take his case.
He responded with this comment;
Abut 25% of the American population are hard-core fundamentalist Creationist-Christian types.
Now guess which portion of the population makes up the 1 in 4 (ie; one quarter of the population otherwise known as 25%) who believe the sun revolves around the earth; a teaching that they say is taught in the bible.

I shared this photo with a number of people because I felt it was beautiful and inspiring.
A somewhat well known Creationist on Youtube who hides behind the name “ThickShades” responded that it’s narcissistic to teach little girls that they’re full of wonder, smart, a great learner, beautiful and have potential for greatness. Instead we should be teaching them that they’re broken, flawed, sinful, weak, dumb and nothing.
For those of you with daughters, friends, family, any women in your life?
The next time you look at them remember that according to creationists those wonderful little (and big!) girls are broken, flawed, sinful, weak, dumb and nothing.
